Casa da Liberdade – Mário Cesariny is a versatile artistic space with museological features, founded in 2013 to honour the Portuguese poet and surrealist painter Mário Cesariny de Vasconcelos. Located in the historic centre of Lisbon, in the Alfama district, it operates in close collaboration with Perve Galeria, with which it shares both a building and a strong curatorial connection.

The space holds a valuable artistic and archival collection bequeathed by the artist himself, alongside a broader collection initiated in the 1990s. This collection comprises several thematic nuclei dedicated to different artistic movements and practices, with particular emphasis on Portuguese Surrealism and Experimental Art.

More than a venue devoted to "orthodox" Surrealism, Casa da Liberdade defines itself as a multifaceted space grounded in Mário Cesariny’s unifying concept of freedom. Its curatorial approach favours artworks and exhibitions shaped by freedom in all its forms — whether formal, narrative, epistemological, ideological, conceptual, political, or religious.
