mais uno +1 is a curatorial, project, and research collective founded in October 2021 that explores the transformative potential of art through the development of incremental relationships and ecosystems between artists, communities, and territories. The collective functions as a flexible structure that continuously negotiates how artistic practice can be produced, shared, and made public within everyday urban contexts.

For the past two years, mais uno +1 has worked in close collaboration with METROCOM, activating and inhabiting unused former retail spaces located within the Lisbon metro stations of Picoas and Areeiro. These spaces, defined by their large street-facing windows and constant visibility to passersby, operate as permeable interfaces between the underground infrastructure of the metro and the above-ground life of the city. They are conceived as open, experimental zones where artists, curators, and collectives invited or selected through open call can develop and present contemporary artistic practices in direct relation to public space, visibility, and circulation.

mais uno +1 works toward complementing and expanding existing institutional frameworks of contemporary art, while simultaneously proposing alternative, more accessible, and more porous modes of operation. It seeks to extend artistic practice beyond conventional circuits, engaging with territories, communities, and publics that are often excluded from dominant cultural infrastructures.

Through its activities, mais uno +1 aims to contribute to the diversification of the socio-cultural fabric of the city, strengthening mutual support networks and fostering more horizontal, democratic, and collaborative structures within the art ecosystem.
