The MOVART project was established in 2015 to promote experimental and itinerant exhibitions within and around the city of Luanda, in Angola. In 2017, MOVART-Luanda, a permanent space on the Luanda Marginal was installed.

MOVART’s main mission pertains to the mediation of contemporary art produced in African countries and by artists from the African and Portuguese -speaking diasporas. This aim does not follow perceived notions of ‘otherness’ or exoticism, but rather is preoccupied with realities and discourses expressed by these artists which are frequently invisible or under-represented in the international art scene. In the near future, MOVART will expand this vision toward the representation of artists from the Global South, in Europe and Africa.
