MONITOR opened in Rome 18 years ago and since then it has been representing emerging and established international artists, developing a distinct program focused on different mediums. After two years experience in New York with a project space, the director Paola Capata decided to open a new gallery in Lisbon in 2017. In its first two years in Portugal it has developed an experimental program that combines emerging Portuguese artists with artists represented by the main gallery in Rome. In September 2019 MONITOR opened a new branch of the gallery in Pereto, a small town in the Abruzzo region, with the intention of taking contemporary art beyond the usual city limits.
