Salto is a non-profit organisation based in Lisbon and managed by Fungo – Associação de Intervenção e Difusão Cultural. It aims to contribute to the dynamisation, diversity, quality and dissemination of cultural provision across the national territory through the promotion of various contemporary artistic expressions.

With an independent structure that combines artists’ studios and a space dedicated to the regular programming of exhibitions and other cultural events, Salto focuses on supporting artistic creation and production in its multidisciplinary nature and multiplicity of poetics. It values research, experimentation, reflection and dialogue as essential drivers of its work, as well as the development of new forms of knowledge and creative languages, building bridges between artists and the community—both locally and within urban contexts, as well as across the wider Portuguese territory and the international landscape.

Founded by Nicolai Sarbib in 2022, Salto quickly distinguished itself as a dynamic platform and a space for encounter and synergy, through a range of programming and curatorial activities, as well as collaborations with artists, creators and other cultural agents, both Portuguese and international.

From December 2024 onwards, Salto intensified its programme, further consolidating its management structure, expanding its network of national and international partnerships, and, for the first time, benefiting from public funding that ensures its sustainability and strengthens its activities.

From that point on, curator, writer and researcher David Revés assumed the role of co-artistic director of Salto, working alongside Nicolai Sarbib to guide the institution’s vision and the development of its activities in the years ahead.

Similarly, from 2025 onwards, Salto’s programme has been supported by the Direção-Geral das Artes — Government of Portugal. It has also established partnerships with Associação Alfaia (Loulé), Associação Aderno (Bussaco/Mealhada), and the independent space SOL (Nexø, Denmark) for the development of joint projects, as well as with the associations AmeBeato and Viver Melhor no Beato, in order to disseminate and embed its activities within local communities.
